2012 runner-up Fiorente has firmed from $6.50 into clear-cut $5.50 favouritism at Sportingbet for the 2013 Melbourne Cup after an outstanding third in today’s Sportingbet Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michaeal Sullivan said the Gai Waterhouse trained former international has established itself as the horse to beat.
“Gai has said all along the Melbourne Cup is Fiorente’s grand final and after his sensational run in the Sportingbet Cox Plate he looks right on track,” Sullivan said.
“He’s been the best backed runner with us over the past three weeks and he now looks like he’ll start a clear favourite on Cup day,” Sullivan said.
“The money suggests Fiorente will be the horse that gives Gai her first Melbourne Cup,” Sullivan said.
Dandino and Mount Athos are $10 equal second favourites at Sportingbet.
